"We just had the best vacation ever, great accommodations, wonderful food. Our time in your lovely country exceeded our expectations. You are extremely good at what you do and we both think you have spoiled us for future travels without Malcolm ..... the most surprising/striking thing about New Zealand? Honestly, there are so many possibilities, it's hard to choose one, but I think it has to be the way we were received by the people of New Zealand, everywhere we went. I was prepared for friendliness, but truly, it was overwhelming. The people we encountered seemed so genuinely happy to see us and to have an interest in us, far beyond what I've ever encountered. It was humbling."

Thanks you for your excellent care and thoughtfulness; Malcolm you really thought of everything and were a most gracious guide. The homestays were first class and our hosts, warm and friendly - your country and people are truly memorable. Our very best wishes."

"Dear Malcolm, Just a little note to thank you and Paul for organising our days in the South Island..... We really enjoyed ourselves and the attention we received in all the places we were taken was wonderful. We felt we had known people for years! I am aware that to you and Paul it is just a business and we were just one of your 12 days work but you certainly made us feel special. Paul's patience while Paula and I browsed in the shops was an example to H&C. We are not usually allowed!....No just kidding, but we usually have more protest from them. Clive and Harold have an enormous task to sort their photos. I think there will be a certain amount of debate as to where some of them were taken and we can enjoy our trip all over again just looking at them. Thank you for the photos you sent, please pass on our thanks to Paul and all our "friends" Happy safe travels and let us know if you are coming to England. Best Wishes from us all"

"We've enjoyed telling others of our wonderful New Zealand odyssey .... never would have seen so much, or learned so much, had we been traveling on our own and count ourselves lucky, thanks to Jonathon, to have found you to be our guide. (Of course we would be more than happy to tell others, should you so wish) .... missed you after we left Christchurch. We got our trip in just in time from a weather point of view. It's hard to imagine all that snow while we are sweltering in high heat and humidity here in Washington"

"Thank you for such a wonderful tour. You made our vacation carefree which is just what we needed. Had to come back to a lot of work but we were well rested thanks to your wonderful planning. It was great! I've told many about your tour and will encourage others to seek you out when traveling to New Zealand. Hopefully you can help us complete the rest of the South Island when we return in a year or two. Thanks again for a very memorable and informative tour of the South Island. We loved all the hosts that you selected for our lodging. It was a great way to experience the people of New Zealand."

"We have been singing your praises steadily and have left a trail of people eager to work with you. I hope they give you a call to find out the amazing range of services and great experiences you can provide. From your first reply to my first inquiry, you listened to our needs and expectations, made judicious recommendations, then customized a grand trip. It would have been an excellent itinerary of interesting places and wonderful home stays no matter what, but having you shepherd us made it truly splendid. We enjoyed your companionship and valued your guidance. So, many thanks for a terrific adventure!"

"Thank you so much for making the South Island come alive for us. We will remember so much more of the flora and fauna because we know the names, the history, and the stories about so many of them. We are so glad we found someone who knew so much and obviously loved sharing that knowledge. We also appreciated meeting all the Kiwis you introduced us to. They will always be a big part of our memories - very good ones. Your advice was invaluable. We also loved the wine discussions and stops at wineries. We certainly recommend anyone coming to New Zealand contact you!."

"In New Zealand, the word “brilliant” is used frequently as an adjective, such as, “brilliant food, brilliant view, brilliant idea”. My husband and I spent two weeks in the South Island in late March to mid April 2005. Our driver/guide, Malcolm Latta, was brilliant. What a superb trip we had ..... tailored to our wishes.  Our accommodations were thoughtfully chosen ..... we shared dinner and breakfast with families and we ate at restaurants, whichever was appropriate for that day. Two weeks was only enough time to see part of South Island. One could easily spend more time."

"All our friends are well aware of what a great time we had in New Zealand, and, I suspect, are rather tired of hearing about it by now.  It truly was a trip we would rate as 5 star...thanks, not only to the wonderful country itself, but to your efforts.  I really can't decide what I liked best...the magnificent scenery, the people we met during our home stays, all the things we learned about the unique environment, or our special experiences hiking or boating.  (The ice cream wasn't bad either!)

I can say without reservation that I would recommend you and the whole experience to anyone!  You somehow managed to cater to all four of us (diverse as our interests were!) and to answer every question that we could come up with.  (As I remember, the questions averaged about one every other minute at times!) It was a real pleasure traveling with Lisa, and Stu. We're definitely planning to come back in a few years, and hope you will still be there to accompany us."

In any event, we will tell our friends and any one else we hear of who may be traveling to New Zealand of your wonderful service ... kindest regards Alf and Kay"

The visits to so many fascinating locations, the wonderfully warm welcomes received at homestays and the varied activities involved created a first class holiday. We appreciated also the highly professional manner in which you yourself and colleague Don Speedy operated on our behalf. "We are back safe in North Carolina, glad to be home, but having some readjustment problems. It's not so much jet lag as it is scenery-withdrawal... and Malcolm-withdrawal. We already miss the sound of the bellbird... the low, long white clouds... the spectacular sunrises and sunsets... the friendly hospitality of the homestays... and tramping around the countryside with you. Most of all, we miss you... miss your humor and grace and patience, your attention to details, your impressive knowledge of the country you love, your care for us. Thank you for being for us mentor, chauffeur, guide and friend. We both want to thank you for three most memorable weeks in your beautiful country."   Robert E. "G'Day Malcolm, I have just spent several minutes reading all those glowing testimonials from your previous clients in the forlorn hope that I might find something different to say. But alas all the resounding things I had in mind have already been said time and time again with complete justification of course . . . . . We have been to several of the scenic hotspots in the world but nothing can match what New Zealand has to offer. Awesome is a word used by many of your clients but really it is rather an understatement. You have a country to be truly proud of. Everywhere is so pristine and all the people we met along the way were so friendly and hospitable . . . .the 17 days with you , were without any doubt whatsoever the best holiday we have ever had - and we have had some good ones !! . . . . . . . . . "Your attention to the details left us with nothing to do but enjoy ourselves.   And we did - Robert relaxed in a way that I wouldn't have thought was possible before the trip!  One of the best parts of traveling is getting to meet new people, and the home stays let us meet many wonderful New Zealanders.  There were so many outstanding memories from the trip that it will take me a long time to put together an album of our adventures.

We are looking forward to the time when we can make the trip again."

There were so many great memories, that we have a hard time picking the "top 5", but the helicopter ride to the glaciers, the Ulva Island trip with Ulva Amos, the White Heron Sanctuary, the Yellow Eyed Penguin colony, Mt. Cook, the farm and homestays, the beautiful flowers everywhere (and especially at the homestays), and the great, ever-present views of the mountains and glacier-fed streams would all be near the top.   Thanks for all that you did to make our trip so memorable!"

"I can recommend Brilliant Tours of New Zealand with the greatest of enthusiasm. My wife and had only a small (three-and-half day) window of time in which to get acquainted with the scenic beauty of New Zealand's South Island. All of this was capped by the excellent advice he gave us for the conclusion of our trip, which was in the North Island. Malcolm and his organization have our highest praise."

You shared so many stories with us that we felt at home everywhere we went. The homestays were ever so enjoyable and the hosts were all so friendly and such good cooks.   We enjoyed the variety offered during the day, ie:  driving, walking, touring etc.  You are very thorough, organized, and I cannot imagine ever being able to plan a holiday for guests and not have one thing go wrong in the four weeks of touring.   You are indeed in the right profession.   I must add that you paired us with a most congenial and enjoyable couple from England who enhanced our vacation to the South Island. and we will remain friends in the coming years. please do not hesitate to pass my name and email address along.   I would be delighted to answer any questions regarding our four week tour with you in February/March, 2002." "Dear Paul and Malcolm, We are all safely back in the USA, and wishing we were in New Zealand!  We have great pictures, and incredible memories.  When you come to visit us, we'll show you our photo album!

Even though we had been thoroughly spoiled by Brilliant Tours and the South Island, we still enjoyed the North Island.  Rotorua smelled, there were scads of tourists, and we were herded around like sheep in the big buses.  A couple times, it took more than 45 minutes for the bus to stop at all the hotels before the tour could begin.  (Yes, we missed you, Paul!)  Still, the Maori culture, the volcano/earthquake info, and the glow worms were fascinating, and I'm glad we didn't miss it.  I wish that we had either done the North Island first, or had Brilliant Tours as our guide, because the best should be saved for the last.

I highly recommend you to all my friends.  Thank you for making my 40th birthday trip so fantastic. Sincerely, Barbara Rollins"

Enjoyed travelling with you and having you show us so much of your wonderful country-the sights, the food and the people. You, Sophie and the people you introduced us to will remain as warm and vibrant memories long after all my pictures have faded.

Hope my experience & enthusiasm for your service will enable some of my friends to taste the New Zealand you showed us.

And . . . . .

"When Chrys & I disembarked from the ferry at Picton, Malcolm Latta of Brilliant Tours was the first person we saw standing at the foot of the ramp holding a Kennedy Party sign.

From that point until our departure from Christchurch airport 15 days later, when we shared a final cup of tea with him in the airport departure area, Malcolm's knowledge, helpfulness, courtesy, experience and genuine friendliness shaped the experience of our trip to New Zealand's South Island much more than we had expected.

We feel very fortunate to have found Brilliant Tours and travelled with Malcolm.   We now truly regard him as a friend and cherish our memories of the people he introduced us to at the farm and home stays.  Malcolm is very attentive and flexible. I suggest letting him know your needs and any specific interests you have.

I'm confident he will produce an unforgettable, custom experience for you as he did for us. You will travel in comfort and safety because Malcolm operates a modern, 4WD Toyota mini-coach and is an excellent driver."

And . . . . . .

"We debated about the best size of a group before finalizing our plans with Malcolm. We considered the benefits of traveling with another couple or two and decided we would be open to one couple at most. As it turned out there was just the two of us & it was perfect. There was no need to compromise on what we wanted to do or when to do it and we enjoyed having the whole vehicle to ourselves. We were able to set the itinerary exactly as we wanted it & modify it any time rather than being stuck with a rigid schedule. Each day unfolded to suit our interests and mood. Malcolm is extremely flexible and as he gets to know you he will make suggestions & adjustments to enhance your trip.

We enjoyed our stay at the wonderful Chateau on the Park Hotel in Christchurch but could have spent another day or two there without exhausting the possibilities. Our fondest memories are the time we spent on the home and farm stays that Malcolm arranged for us. Our hosts treated us like visiting friends rather than paying guests. Maybe that is a Kiwi characteristic that is just more evident in the homes than hotels. We also socialized with other guests and at places where dinner was not provided, such as in Queenstown, went out together for dinner.  We spent two weeks on the South Island with Malcolm and would loved to have had more time there. It is the best vacation trip we have ever taken. I can't imagine a better way to experience New Zealand."

"Dear Malcolm, Alex and I wish to thank you for making our visit to South Island so memorable - putting aside the weather of course!
Your organisation for the tour was wonderful and the accommodation at each venue was excellent. We enjoyed delicious meals every day and we are now on strict diets until we resume our pre holiday weights.

"Thank you for your kindness, we have very much enjoyed our travel. So far we have travelled to US, Europe, SE Asia, and to many places in Japan. Every travel has given us unforgettable experiences, but I believe this travel will be 'the best'. Every part, everything, every person - all are nice!    Shotover Jet boat was really exciting!  Ayako enjoyed it most. Flowers were very, very beautiful everywhere. The absent minded professor was always curious about  the house construction. I Hiroshi, was always trying to interpret correctly - but it was a precious experience.......

"Malcolm, thank you for a terrific tour. It was better than going on the train or one of the bus tours because of your friendly personality, but especially due to the fact you are more than a "tour guide" who has memorised a sheet of facts.

It is obvious your knowledge is born of experience and a genuine love of your country and this makes tours with you the best. Thanks for sharing your love and knowledge with us."

"My Dear Malcolm - it's hard to put what Tony and I experienced into words!. New Zealand is a phenomenal country - overwhelming because no matter where we looked we could see the hand of God Our Father. It was as if he had taken a paint brush and painted all the magnificent colours for us to enjoy!. It was breathtaking and unforgettable!."
